"It's fine"

I was looking for reviews for other condos in Vancouver, since I'm moving to another city. Then I was curious about the condo I'm renting right now, so I searched about TV towers, and I felt uncomfortable about some of the reviews, so I'm writing about my opinion about the building. I've been renting a unit at TV tower for about a year, and I didn't see much of a problem with the security or with the neighbors. There haven't been many parties. There once was a huge party one floor above though, and when I called the concierge desk and talked about it, the staffs mediated the issue in a nice manner and all was well resolved. The building maintenance has been good too. Things including the water pressure/temperature, waste disposal/maintenance, mail services, and the elevators (there are 3 elevators) were fine.

"Nothing negative to tell
you about TV Towers"

Below is my review of TV Towers. I decided to post here because some earlier negative comments are in my opinion way overblown. I have lived at this building since February 2011 and am very happy with the maintenance, concierge services, cleanliness and elevators. If anything I find that the gym can get a little crowded. The location is perfect and considering where it is, it's amazingly quiet! I hope above helps, cheers.

"Great building, excellent
location and a lot more."

I am reading some of the older reviews and can't help thinking that they have been posted by a disgruntled tenant and/or concierge staff that was "let go". I have proudly owned in TV Tower 1 since 2009. Prior to that, I have owned in other Yaletown and Downtown buildings including the Seastar, The Domus, The Alvar and the West One and I must say TV Towers compares just as favorably. All downtown buildings have good and bad residents, but it is reassuring to know that this buildings management is very firm at enforcing the rules and by-laws, whether you are an owner or a tenant. Examples: If there are noisy neighbours, you call the concierge to come verify the noise and (s)he will issue a warning, a second offence will get you a fine. The parkade gate has a "traffic-light" system,so that everyone waits for the gate to close and not let anyone else in. This is monitored by camera's; not waiting for the gate to close will land you a fine. Since this system was implemented I have not heard of any car break-ins. Elevators: Especially in newer buildings, in the first few years, there is a high turn over of residents and like most other buildings TV Towers has busy move in/out days mostly at month end, but all moves must be between 10 am and 4 pm, minimizing the wait for other residents. I never had to wait longer than a few minutes. In summary, I am very happy to be at TV Towers and have no plans of moving!

"Satisfactory"

I actually don't agree with the many of the reviews here, since the condo works really nice for me. Many people have mentioned concierge problems, but I have never experienced any hostile or misconducted behavior from the concierges. Many of them I have met were okay. (Not too close, not too far--they know how to keep their distance) There are female concierges as well, so it was even better. I don't find my neighbors particularly loud or rude or dangerous. Location is obviously great. The building's in the central part of Vancouver, and the library is right beside the building. Transportation is also nice, since there are buses connected to everywhere (to works in downtown, schools including UBC and SFU, shopping malls, post office, etc with zero or one transfer mostly) Personally I enjoy the unit I live in, since I see the mountains and the sea as well as the city view. (not sure about other units though. I live in the 2nd TV tower building on Robson) So far, I find the condo very satisfactory.

"Car Theft - Break Ins -
Drug Dealing on Site -
student death"

Our daughter started her undergrad studies at UBC and we rented a 2 bedroom in tv towers II for her. When we first looked at the building we were very pleased with the location and how new everything seemed, and the rent of $2200 seemed justified for the space and location. Two weeks into her stay my daughter started complaining about the noise in the building that came from parties on the upper and lower floors. At night she could not rest in her bedroom as her neighbor prefered to smoke cigarettes and other substances on his balcony next to her bedroom window. As other people already described the concierge service is very unprofessional and my daughter usually waited for the female concierge to be on duty, feeling very uncomfortable with the way the male concierges in general and especially the tall male concierge treated her. After my husband tried to resolve the situation with the concierge, they accused my daughter of keeping an illegal cat in her unit, that would be jumping up and down in the bathtub (yes, they really said that) and got a noise complaint from the neighbors. Luckily we have medical proof that my daughter is highly allergic to cats which helped us sort out this issue with her landlord very quickly, but it was still a very unpleasant experience.

Part II: Securtity in this building in non-existent. Our car (parked in the gated underground) got broken into 2 times. It's quite common for tennats to secure their units with alarm systems and my daughter saw her neighbor being arrested for drug use and selling. When we saw a girl (also a UBC student and our daughter's age) overdosing and dying from drugs in the TV Towers II building on the reality show "The beat" we decided to remove our daughter from this environment once and for all.

"AVOID AVOID AVOID"

My spouse and I have lived at TV Towers for quite some time. When the strata decided to go with Master Hospitality the quality of concierge service went downhill. We too have been unable to get some of our mail as some of my parcels only have K instead of Kelly. As of today, we have 4 parcels that we are "not allowed" to get.

I'm very sorry to hear about your situation. My daughter was having the same issues. Once we had to buy her a complete new set of textbooks, as the tall male concierge would not release her mail to her. Also there was a lot of unregsitered mail for us, that must have gotten "lost" in the mail.

Why not contact the management company or building manager, they will reease your property too you. Concierge staff are not permitted to withhold mail or deliveries of any kind.

"MASTER HOSPITALITY
RESOURCES & RANCHO = A
match made in HELL"

We've been in TV Towers for 2 1/2 years now and we have really noticed a decline in the quality of concierge service. My wife has started waiting until the afternoon shift comes on to pick up mail or even walk through the lobby to avoid the creepy vibe coming from the front desk. One concierge in particular seems to take pleasure in terrifying our child by high fiving him even though it's clearly not welcome, and asks oddly personal questions of a 5 year old. It's entirely inappropriate. Things have not changed for the better since Master Hospitality Resources took over. ***UPDATE***** Last week I was asked by the tall morning concierge K. what my family would be doing in our apartment, as we would receive so much mail. While we only know him by his first name, he knows all of our family members by first and last name and is keeping track ( and by this I mean COUNTING) the number of personal correspondence we receive. It is disgusting.

Reading all this makes me so upset. I know the people speaking up here are only a small proportion of the tennants that will have to endure hassels like this every day. It's very disconcerting and calls for collective action!

"Avoid avoid avoid!!!"

Good: location Bad: Lots to list! Awful strata, *very* noisy neighbours, loud parties, 2 elevators for 30+ floors but usually only 1 working because they break down often or get booked for moves, rude & useless concierges, recycling bins always overflowing, not much visitor parking, irresponsible dog owners let their dogs urinate on carpets or floors in common areas, yoga room always locked, security lacking, cars broken into I lived in TV Towers for 1 year but wanted to move out after 1 week. Glad to be gone! Recommended to nobody.

Also I am uncomfortable with sleazy men concierges who hit on me when I go in to get parcels, so now my husband gets them. False accusations!! In the elevator, it was me and my dog, and my visiting sister-in-law with her dog. The concierge assumed we were roommates and told us off for having more than the one pet per unit, and said strata would kick us out. We get deliveries that are verified as delivered by Canada Post. No parcel delivery notices are stuck to our mailbox however and the concierges say they have no record of our parcels arriving. Suspiciously our "missing" parcels are always our online shopping from Amazon. we find this suspicious, especially because Amazon parcels always arrived with no problem before Master Hospitality. Another dog owner didn't clean up when his dog urinated by the mailboxes. I informed the concierge on duty because I was concerned about somebody slipping. He said she would get the maintenance people to clean up but blamed me saying he "knew for sure" that it was my dog that urinated and that it wasn't nice or fair that I demanded somebody clean up my mess. TV Towers has good stuff to it, the concierges though are the worst. My husband and I want to warn others that this company has some wacky and awful staff. Any property people are warned to avoid utilizing Master Hospitality at all costs!

We spoke to a realtor in late October / 2012 who's very familar with the building and she confirmed the issues tennants and owners are having with the concierge and also the management service. With the current economy and the bad reputation of the building owners and investors had to lower their prices by almost 30% without any luck. We were considering buying at TV Towers II, the unit we were considering was priced at $ 899.000 back then and now did not sell for $ 678 000.

"Yaletown dud"

The location of TV Towers is fabulous and pet friendly, there is ample bike storage and suites are bright and sunny. Nevertheless I can't vouch for this place. The high turnover rate means that almost every weekend, one elevator is booked. There are only two elevators servicing almost 30 floors and so when one elevator is off-limits, we wait up to 15 minutes for it. The people in this building are not very friendly - the tenants are mostly language students or 20-somethings whose parents are paying their rent or mortgage and loud parties are common, as is people tossing items off the balcony (I am always clearing discarded cigarette butts from my own balcony). Theft is common in the locker room and locks have been pried open. Personal trainers living in the building often bring clients to the gym, which makes it cramped for residents because it isn't big to begin with. As far as the staff go, the cleaners and two maintenance guys are a great asset to TV Towers. Recently the strata hired a new concierge provider and the new concierges are terrible compared to the very professional and efficient people before. Don't expect friendliness or helpfulness, and don't expect the guys to bother doing security checks - but they will hit on the women in the building and openly mock residents about clothing, weight, breast size, looks, etc. as soon as the resident has left the concierge desk area.

My daughter saw the male concierges abusing the security camera system to "follow" female tennants through the builidng. Again, very very disconcerting.
