Review This Building

This is a 92 unit rooftop rental complex located on top of the Save-On Foods, Home Depot and Winners/Home Sense at Cambie nad 8th. It includes a rooftop common garden and great views. Although no private BBQs are allowed, they have provided 4 huge propane with side burner BBQs along with patio funiture that can be used by all. There is also a small gym/common room with a treadmill, elliptical, rower and bicycle. Doesn't sound like a lot but no one ever uses them! The property management keeps the propane full and the gym open from 6am til midnight. Some of the units allow for pets but I think they have been increasing the are getting desperate for renters so have opened up more units for the pet owner.

"The Rise"

This plac is brand new as of July 30'08. I currently live here (since Aug '08) and although the unit is pretty pricey, it's gorgeous! Although we don't live on the Cambie street side, the traffic noise must be pretty intense on that part of the building as we hear a ton of traffic at night (ambulance, police). People generally keep to themselves, that or there aren;t a lot of people living here! Colliers is the management company and they are pretty great about staying on top of any repairs. Since it's a brand new building, I think they're trying to keep everything as perfect as possible. The rooftop greenspace is a huge plus as those with animals have a place for them to roam around and it makes us feel like we're not really in the city...... You do however have to pay extra for parking ($100/month) and storage ($25/month). Oh and because of the retail space below, there's always onsite security....

This is very different from our experience of the Rise at the same time. Trying to communicate with Colliers was a nightmare. They were replaced shortly before we moved out in May 2009 so the new company may be much better. In any event, the build quality of some of the suites at the time of construction was poor so perhaps they were overwhelmed by the amount of work to be done. I remember that a chunk of our hardwood floor was missing. Tenants are required to sign a huge complicated lease with insurance coverage up to $3M which names the commercial investors as beneficiaries, something which no insurance company we contacted was willing to do, including those recommended by the rental company. Despite the onsite security, the lockers were broken into towards the end of our tenancy and the management company didn't think it necessary to inform the tenants until weeks later. Hopefully it's improved since then!

We moved in *after* the change in management. We heard the old management was a nightmare. From first-had experience we can say the current management is fantastic -- they stay on top of everything, and they are really friendly. They even helped us jump-start our car when the battery died and change a light-bulb for us that was too high for our ladder (we have very high ceilings in our unit). The place is on the expensive side and the units themselves are a bit small; but the property itself is very nice; a taste of suburban living in middle of an urban area with a million places nearby (save-on-foods, whole foods, home depot, starbucks, best buy, homesense/winners, two pizza places, bc liquors etc etc) all within 2 blocks!

This places is totally not worth the money. Yes the lease is complicated, the contents insurance is insanely expenses, parking is extra, and you can hear your neighbours got to the toilet when you lie in bed, and you can also hear them walk up and down the stairs (thank goodness it appears they don't have sex). What a total rip off. The only reason to rent here is that is easy to get a place (read the management company is desperate to fill the apartments). No one stays very long ..... I don't need to think hard to figure out why ...... But yes the maintenance dude is extremely helpful. Oh yeah and to those people that think it's okay to let their pets roam around the garden can you please pick up their shit? Rant over .....

Yeah totally agree with the previous user - I cannot recommend this place it is so noisy with police and ambulance sirens, honking horns - can wait to move!
