"awful strata, thin walls,
awful neighbours"
The strata here seems useless. Theres no upkeep of the landscaping and the common area is extremely outdated. They like to charge an arm and a leg but where does the money go?? There have been break ins and they refuse to put up cameras anywhere. If you have a concern, don't expect to hear back from them. All your monthly strata fee will do is pay for their salary. Needless to say, the strata council is corrupt also. Do NOT buy in this complex. My home inspector decided not to inform me how poorly built the whole complex is.. I can hear a pin drop in my neighbours place next door. Even though I don't say anything about noise; you'll be issued FINE if your vacuum is too loud..

That's probably why condo vacancy is high as per the news today. Once you own you will be scared to own anything else. WARNING - most buildings have problems. READ the minutes and know how to read between the lines.
If it's true you can be fined for using a vacuum; then noise should have been addressed in the minutes.
Cameras are too costly if the building isn't wired. If it's Video the crime is already done by the time someone has time to watch it. Live security is best.
That's funny because our home inspector had raved about how well built this building is and how the plumbing was in tip top shape for over 10 years and that the roof has another 15-20 years to go. Strata fees are low in my opinion. I don't know where you are getting your comparable a but I lived in the area in another townhome and was paying double the strata fees. Also, it's a wooden complex. If you don't want to hear anything then pay a bit extra to buy concrete. Putting up cameras is a huge cost which could potentially drive strata fees up and even if you saw the perpetrators on camera it would be hard to identify them. The cops would hardly have anything to go off of. To me, all of the above is common sense
Moved in Oct 2016- have to agree with the original poster with regards to the noise issue. I think the builders definitely either dropped the ball or cheaped out. You can hear footsteps, music, you name it. That said, the building is fairly safe and overall well kept. No safety issues for me so far. Just surprised how much sound travels. I expected there to be some noise, but hearing even the plumbing run is kinda annoying. Advice for potential buyers: - buy a top unit - if possible, do some research on who your above neighbours are - check plumbing
