Rented a unit in this building

I've lived here for a year on a mid-level floor facing View St (aka "the noisy side" of the building). Aside from normal street noise--mostly people as they go to/from the bar down the street on Friday and Saturday nights--there is very little noise. Being closer to street level might be worse, but View is not a major thoroughfare so there isn't much traffic. My neighbours are generally quiet, though I can hear when renovations are underway in the adjacent units. A friend lives on an upper-level floor on the "quiet" side, facing Fort St. While it is indeed quiet for exterior noise/traffic, the upstairs neighbours appear to be both young and have wooden flooring...the noise from their unit is fairly consistent. When a neighbour is out on the balcony making any noise, you'll hear it clearly, as per the large patio doors and windows. The units are on the small side but generally well laid out. Parking is a bit of an issue. There aren't enough spots for every unit and visitor parking is presented in an unfriendly manner (virtually impossible for an overnight guest to use visitor parking??) so I've never used it.

We Rented a condo in the Metropolitan Building on the 5th floor. Our condo was in the back which is the quiet side of the building. We enjoyed our stay very much. This condo is located right in the heart of Victoria. We walked to different excellent restaurants every night. There is a upscale grocery store a less then two blocks away. We couldn’t have been more pleased with the location. However, I don’t think we would buy a condo in this building. The fist problems is guest parking. There apparently is no way to insure that any car parked in guest parking (even with a parking permit on the dashboard) won’t get towed. There are very struck rules and no one can feel comfortable about parking there. Second, even though our condo is in the back where it is supposed be quite, every Saturday night and sometimes Friday nights, we are awakened in the early mooring by noise coming from the front of the building across the street. Lastly, for anyone renting for a month, this condo is not for anyone that has difficulty climbing up and down stairs. Park in the back in an uncovered area. When we accessed the building from our parking area we had to walk down a flight of stairs to access the elevators. This especially was difficult when we had to bring in groceries. It was exhausting climbing up and down those stairs three or four times to bring in groceries. I am guessing that if you purchased a condo you would have the option to purchase a parking place too.
