"Living in downtown New
West"

Having lived in east Van for the past 3 years when we first moved to Vancouver we weren't sure what kind of place New West would be. All we knew was that it was on the side of the Fraser that was good to us as we work downtown and hate taking bridges. Overall, we have lived on the 7th floor for 16 months now and have fallen in love with the city. Easy to get around, thanks to the close skytrain stations and the downtown core is becoming much more interesting then just bridal shops. In less than 6 months we'll have a theatre, a river market, civic centre and a bunch of new restaurants in the Quay. Overall, rent is cheap, transportation is easy and New West has good amenities

"Good for renting"

Rented for about 1 year facing the north west side. Extremely good location, about 5 mins to skytrain, shops, Douglas, and pubs/restaurants on Columbia. Moved because I took a job on the east coast but when I move back I'd definitely consider renting here again. One good/bad thing is the security in the building. Every floor requires a key and while it is very safe it can be annoying if you are carrying groceries.

"the Clarkson is a Great
Building"

I currently own a unit in the Clarkson and I have had no issues with the building. We have a unit that is near to the skytrain, but you really don't notice it. The building is in a convient location, close to Douglas College and New West Skytrain station... good for commuting Downtown to work.

"It might look good but
consider the following"

I leased a 1 bedroom /w den on the 8th floor. It was a beautiful suite-well maintained with a modern decor. Location was perfect too — a five minute walk to the Quay, and easy accessibility to skytrain and Douglas College. But for future dwellers, I would caution about the following concerns:1) Skytrain: I had come frome the Quay with a unit facing the train yard, so when I saw how close the skytrain was I thought that it certainly couldn't be any worse than what I was coming from...WRONG!!!! In The Clarkson unit, the skytrain flies by the window every 2 minutes, all day long. It wasn't too bad in the winter, but in the summer months when the windows had to be open, it was AWFUL! If you are considering a unit, make sure it does not face the tracks. It is worse than one would think.2) Windows and pets/little kids: The unit had one glaring design flaw that I am amazed p---ed any building inspection: The unit had floor to window ceilings with windows that opened and pushed out from the bottom...it would be far too easy for kids or pets to crawl out the window, a straight drop to the street below. If you have small children or pets, a unit in the Clarkson is a definite no!!!3) Noise from neighbours: The woman in the unit next to me watched TV 24/7, and when her balcony door was open, the noise in my den was unbearable. I used my den as an office, which made working in there impossible.4) Security: My storage locker was broken into twice, and cars were routinely damaged.

"Too close to Skytrain"

The Skytrain was running right next to this building. It is a good location close to shops, services and skytrain, but it was pretty noisy in the condo I visited because it faced the skytrain. Otherwise though the condo building seemed nice and the actual condo was nice as well.

"Great location, but..."

Before we were married, my wife rented a unit in this building, so I spent a lot of time there. The unit was very bright and airy, on the 8th floor overlooking the New West skyline, which was very pleasant. And the location was great -- for example, Starbucks and the Columbia skytrain very closeby. The noise generated by the skytrain was annoying, especially in the summer when windows tend to be open. And there were relatively frequent security issues in the parkade, and a few units were broken into during the 2 years I visited this building. My wife's floorplan was a 1 bed and den, however the den was very small and could hardly be considered a seperate room. smrtovnica smrtovnice
